Yorkshire cyclo series rd 6 Thornes Park race report 1st December by Mike Newton.
Conditions were looking good up until the morning of the race where wet stuff fell from the sky which made for some interesting racing.
The youngsters had the worst of the weather during their morning races , but that didn't stop the BRC youth members performing well in their races. A BIG well done to all those riders. Coach Chris and BRC members are very proud of you all for giving it your all whilst wearing BRC colours!

Once all the other racers had churned up the course, it was time for the senior, junior & vet 40 to battle it out.
Myself, young Ryan, Russ Senior and Dominic Bottomley lined up and before you know it we're 10 abreast all fighting for the same corner as the course quickly went into single track. I had a pretty good start and for the first lap and a half I was hanging on to Glen Hale's wheel but the pace was too much for me. Throughout the race I found myself battling with a few riders whereby they would be stronger on the flat and uphill sections but I could make up time on the more technical, slippy sections where the saying 'flat out, foot out' was going through my head 😀
Coming into the last lap 3 lads passed me and had a small gap going up the climb on the far side of the course. I put in a big effort and managed to get passed 2 of them before exiting the woodland. I then made a another overtake but soon got dive bombed up the inside pushing me into the tape on the exit, I repaid the favour on the next corner ( If you ain't rubbing, you ain't racing 😂) Unfortunately, when it came to the sprint he managed to get better traction and beat me to the line.
Thanks to all the support througout the race from BRC members young and old, not old, just older 😆.
